Like everyone, some of my weeks are packed with making, experimenting, testing & creating whilst other weeks are slower, with more time spent in my head thinking/processing/ letting my subconscious do the hard work ;)
Last week was a mix so I thought I'd share…

Experimenting
I’m always experiemtning but recently I have been experimenting with the wet cyanotype process, testing various surfaces and chemical combinations for the results I’m after. Some have gone well, like the ones pictured above, others I need to learn from.
Comfort Zone
I often make cyanotypes in my break time at work or after work. Something I love to do is stay in my comfort zone! I know that sounds a little meh, but what I mean by that is making prints I know will at least withstand the rinsing process. Sometimes it can be disheartening when you’re trying new things and pushing boundaries but all your prints are disappearing or not exposing etc. Making a print of a negative image for example, is a quick way to keep me engaged with the process and wanting to make more. I works for me anyway :)
Upcoming Collaboration
I also spent some time planning a collab with a cool glass brand thats based in NYC. I’m going to create some prints for them, so stay tuned! I't’ll be on my insta and probably here afterwards
An evening walk
It has been lovely weather here in the UK recently. One of my favourite things is observing the sky as it transitions to dusk. I’m in love with the colour pallet, the gradient tones, the clouds and the skies vastness. I’m in awe. I feel so inspired by it. Its gentle nature, reminds me I have time, time to create, time to think and enjoy my artist practice.
I have quite enjoyed writing about my week so I imagine you’ll see this type of newsletter again. Let me know what you think!
All the best
Ellen
Always love seeing your processes and hearing your thoughts. I just posted a couple of my first successful cyanotype experiments! Super grateful for all the inspiration I've been able to find - your work very much included. 💙
